Compression tester
In the new Harbor Freight catalog there is a compression tester that fits Mercedes. Item no. 93644 for $16.99. The same one advertized on their web site is $19.99. There is no phone no. listed on the catalog but HF stores will honor catalog prices.

Hrm, I've been dying to check the compression on my 300D, since there is a little blow-by in the engine. Is this relatively easy to do, with the harbor freight kit?
Also, my blow-by is only noticable when I remove the oil filler cap. A little bit of steam comes out of there, but isn't enough to jostle the cap much (it doesn't even teakettle. Virbrates a little, maybe.. but mostly due to the engine shake). I'm guessing I have very little blow-by? Is it even worth me getting this tool? |

Dang
I just ordered one online yesterday. I guess I'll just eat the $3.
I did, however, notice that it doesn't come with adapters for my Cummins. Bummer. I'm hoping that I can somehow DIY adapt it when I need to. Also, I can't imagine the difficulty it'd be to test compression through the glow holes on a VW diesel. It's hard enough to get the plugs in and out on those things!

These same kits in the poly blow cases are $9.99 at Hudsons if you have a store in your area. The gas engine compression testers are $5.99

Quote:
Lew, HF has an entirely different kit for Cummins diesels. It's some $75.00. There's one more kit that's more expensive than all the others; I didn't look to see what that one has for fittings. Type "diesel" in the keyword search to see all three kits. |
