Purchased a used tach amp off of EBay -first couple days it worked perfectly, now the tach needle is bouncing all over the place but relatively stable at idle . . . . . any thoughts? Thanks!

Sounds like you bought a bad tach amp. When mine kicks in, it bounces all over the place then dies right back again. Might as well spend the money and get a new one from fastlane if you want the tach.

Would a 1978 300SD have a tach amp????
I have the same problem even after swapping adapters and tachometers... I have an unknown clicking in the passenger's footwell in perfect time to the tach needle bounce...Robert

Yes, your 78 should have a tach amp, too.
