New 300sd owner - coolant question

Hi - and yes, I did search the forum before posting this question.

Just bought an '83 sd with what seems to be 125,000 genuine kilometers (about 80,000 miles). Old cap on the expansion tank was shot so I replaced it with a new MB part.

Now the coolant level is settling about 2" BELOW the proper cold line in the expansion tank after driving 3 hours on the highway. NOTHING on the ground (left newspaper under engine all night), no coolant in the oil, nothing coming out of the overflow tube on the tank.

Anything I should be worried about?

well

with a new pressure cap you might be losing a little from a loose hose clamp or such. i would check everything carefully and keep an eye on it.

Coolant level question

Thanks for the responses. No, I can't see or smell a leak anywhere.

I'm going to take the bugger for a drive this evening and then poke around while it's still hot and running. I have looked around the monovalve area as well as the obvious hoses up front.
