IP lines are dry, trying to start the car.

ok need your help again. i had to take off the injector lines to get the glow plugs out. 3 were dead, but i replaced all 5. they looked old and crappy. and i dont know how old they are. this is my 300D 1985.

well since i had to take the injector lines off, what bolt do i open up bleed the air out. i have bled my fuel system several times when i had to replace the fuel filter, but when i do it my normal method, no diesel is comming up through the line.

i have opened the banjo bolt above the fuel filter, and i tried the banjo bolt on the back of the IP.

i just want to get it started...

Priming the pump is jused to fill up the spin on fuel fuel filter not the injection lines. After reinstalling the lines just crank her up!

so i should just seal it all up, and then pump?

what if i open up one injector line to see when fuel made it up there? will that work, or will that let air and foul it up?

Thanks to Brian Carlton for correcting my original post. I must have had too much apple juice to drink.

If it still wont start after you pump like crazy you could "crack" the injector nuts, crank the engine over . When fuel comes out, dog down the nut, crank till fuel comes out of all injector lines. You proly got her going by now anyway.

Edited: See post #9.

also

when you have a problem bleeding, you can spray in the wd40 with the air filter off. it will run on it just fine, til the air is out of the system.

Sorry Russell. Totally false. (I've edited post #2 and post #4 to prevent false info for other members)

If you take the injector lines off, you can pump the primer pump 5000 times and no fuel will enter the injector lines. Furthermore, no air is introduced into the system, with the exception of the hard lines to the injectors.

So, the only thing that needs to be done is to get in the vehicle, glow it, press your right foot on the floor, and turn the key.

It will start in 12 seconds.

Also, you don't need to bother with cracking the injector lines. I've proven that it won't buy you anything. If you crack the lines, you get fuel at the injectors in 12 seconds. If you don't crack the lines, you start the engine in 12 seconds.

Another one of the stories that abound on this forum.......proven false.

Yes you are correct. I was thinking of something else as I was writing. I corrected my original posts.

Good thing you are quick on the draw!

Uh , no ~ _NOT_ ' totally false ' I replaced all 5 injectors in my NA '78 300CD ad it wouldn't start untill I cranked it with the injector lines cracked to bleed out the air ~ I tried crankig it floored and every other way too , it coughed a few times but made no real efort to start ~ once the lines were bled it lit off before I could get # 3 snugged up......

Only you guys here helped me out by suggesting cracking the injector lines...

That's quite interesting. The SD behaved exactly the opposite. I'm now curious as to what the difference is.

Maybe some other folks can try it both ways and report back.
