Talking Propane + diesel engine = ???

I seem to recall someone talking about using propane in a diesel engine like a gasser would use nitrous oxide. Has anyone heard of this?

I put a little home built propane jobby on my 7.3 PSD. Kicks ass. If my PSD can handle it I'm sure the 617 could as well. But then again the PSD is electronic so I don't know what preignition of the propane would do in a mechancile IP. I'm assuming the propane ignights earlier. All I know is I can drain a camping bottle pretty quick when I'm late for class and my foot gets heavy

Yes propane injection is very common on the diesel pickup trucks that want more power. It gives the same effect as nitrous on a gas engine. Bully dog sells them for the diesel pickups.

really to do propane injection right you need electronic controled injection and an O2 sensor. These are required to get the maximum power out of it with out wasting fuel.

Here is the link to the article of which you speak:

propane + veg oil = vroom-vroom

And for the answer to what kind of propane tank to use, I just noticed the
forklift in our shop has a decent horizontal mount and seems proper for
vehicle use. No barbecue tanks.

If anyone is looking at doing this, please report back.

I was watchign the show trucks on sunday. they showed a diesel pickup that they put on propane and nitrous injection and it made the truck produce crazy power.

They mentioned that they got everything from bully dog. they added new injectors, computer reprogramming, etc. so I am sure that one would have to investigate if it would work on one of the benz diesels that you guys are talking about.

I really like that show. I think the host Stacy was a really "cool dude" (Ferris Bueller). It's a shame the station chose not to bring him back for the new season. I remember last last year they tried to pair him up with another guy and Stacy did not not look too happy during those shows. I guess the demographics said Stacy out, new guys in.
