Chrome Windshield trim, how to put it back?
Replaced my windshield yesterday; took me a while to get all the old weather-strip glue out of the window channel, no rust what so ever, installing the windshield itself was a pretty easy job.
But unfortunately nothing with these coupes comes easy, I can't get the chrome trim back in place, any suggestions, there must be an easy way?

The chrome trim goes in before you install the windshield and gasket. Can't do it afterwords on any of the Mercedes I'm familiar with.

I have only done a rear window but I think you should have put the trim in the seal channel before you put the window in the car.

bite the bullet...
I did front and rear seals on a 123 I had and you will demolish the trim trying to put it in AFTER the install.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

You will curve/wrinkle the trim trying to install it now the gasket is in..
Bite the bullet......remove the gasket/glass and install trim before going back with gasket.......at least everything is still fresh.....on the otherhand...So-Ca look ! .

For those familiar with the seal/trim installation..........does this situation imply that you cannot remove the trim and replace it unless you remove the glass and reinstall it??

To answer Brian's question - yes, I believe that is the case.

I did get the trim back in place with out taking the windshield out again. But it's definitely not the way to go.
I did push/hammered the trim back in place with a lot of soup, a rubber hammer and some wood to keep the trim as straight as possible. The only part were I screwed up are the two lower corner parts. Have to find some "new ones at a junkyard. But what a pleasure it is to look true a un pitted windshield, even the wipers stopped making the annoying squeezing sound. Next time when I undertake another task on my 300CD I will ask you guys for advice first!

1 DIY project I have put off a long time is my rear windshield removal and replacing the seal with the new one I have, to get access to rust repair under the windshield.
I was told that I should not attempt to remove the rear WS myself. That I WOULD break it. (NOt by a WS guy...) Anyone have a simple step by step on removing and reinstalling a rear WS on a 300D? Advice appreciated,, as usual! AA

When I watched the Safelite guys put in the windshield from my coupe, they put the trim in very last. They also removed the trim as the 1st step in removing the old windshield.

Apparently, if you're good, you could do it backwards, but here are the instructions.
