I believe all Mobil 1 oil is at least "CF" rated now. the "Truck SUV' oil has the newer diesel ratings. "CF" is better than is required for your year engine and Mobil 1 is much better oil than was dreamed about in 1982. The Mobil 1 web site reccomends 0W-30 Mobil 1 for all temperatures for the 5 cyl MB diesel. Make what you want of that. I am using the 5W-30 in the winter and 5w-40 in the summer here in Denver. At 5k miles thats 2 changes a year so I can do summer and winter. I am putting clean oil in periodically, really have to change those crank seals. Use the best oil you can afford change it regularly, keep the oil between the low mark and about 1/2 way to the full mark and all should be good. Good luck!

Has something changed with the Mobil? I thought the truck/SUV oil was not diesel oil?

It sounds like they need to fix their web site.

I've found that 5W40 works well all year. I would be reluctant to run 5W30 if there was any chance of warm weather.

Yes, the old Truck and SUV oil (5W40) is diesel rated and can still be found on the shelves in some places. The new Truck and SUV is 5W30 and is not diesel rated:

The new diesel oil is 5W40 "Turbo Diesel Truck" and is not yet available in my area:

Apparently they have added the new 5W30 and repackaged the 5W40.

Rotella T

Rotella is the oil we used at the MB dealership on Turbo diesel engines after warranty was out - it's the only oil I've ever used in all 7 of the family 300D Turbo's - it's also what we used in all of the farm tractors/diesel equipment...

The best is:
Delvac 1 5w40
or
Amsoil 5w-40

You said best, so I didn't consider cost.
