The lid on my SD is aluminum, although it never occurred to me for years.

here is another one for you...
1. squeeze over to the side of the trunk and pull up the spare tire lid. 2. pull yellow vacuum line out of pump in corner 3. blow into the tube. 4. grab the 8 mm wrench from the toolkit and remove tail lamp 5. open. 6. get in drivers door 7. cut lock cylinder off 8. jump pins 15 30 and (10?) to start 9. drive home in your new benz 10. grind off vins 11. buy a $200 126 and stamp all its numbers on your new car (if someone locked me in the back of their benz they don’t deserve to drive it any longer)

I would keep poking at the rust holes, and maybe pull the rubber plugs in the floor of the trunk....tail lights out too, use the lug wrench to punch out the lights or somethin....

Bump cause the show is back on.
I would take the light out and open the trunk too, but if not, you can access the vacuum motor in the trunk and hotwire it.

Open up the toolkit and unbolt the taillights for air and light, then unbolt the trunk.

The show is NCIS; it is on CBS tonight at 8 (too late for the west coast guys sorry). It is a pretty good show about Navy guys tracking down the bad guys. Most episodes are a bit unrealistic (but what show on TV is)
but it is pretty good fluff; way better than the CSI's. --Matt

I wonder when MB changed things around?
All panels on my SDL and SD are steel. Yet an '84 SD parts car my dad has seems to have both an aluminum trunk and hood (magnet test). Anyway. If I were stuck in the trunk of one of my cars, I would do the same as what has been suggested. There are rubber plugs that may be removed for better air circulation attached to the quarter panels underneath the cardboard-like trunk covers. I could poke them out with my finger. Perhaps that would also allow enough light into the cabin (if it was daylight) so that I could attempt to disable the lock, remove the tail-light frame and lens, and unlock my trunk. |

Since my 126's trunk is filled with restoration parts the attacker would have to clean out the trunk in order to put me in there. While I was being a nice guy and helping him I would hit him in the head with the extra A/C compressor I have back there and run like h***.
On my 140 there is a release. But I think you guys are overlooking mobile telephones. Most attackers don't take the time to take away your mobile phone when throwing you in the trunk. I have my tag numbers memorized. One quick phone call would hopefully eliminate the situation without having to break my car in the process. I also carry with me an analog bag phone in each of my cars. I had a break down on a trip once (in one of my "reliable" Japanese cars) and did not have Cellphone reception on my handheld and had to walk several miles for help. I got a bag phone for each one of my cars after that experience and can at least dial 911 or do credit card roaming on the A and B towers of the analog carriers. With a full 3 watts of analog power you could at least annoy 911 into helping you with some repeated scratchy phone calls. |
