My Car Is Home!

Well, a good eBay (kinda) experience.
That 78 300SD I got from an eBay seller after the listing didn't reach the reserve turned out to be way better than the pics and the details could have captured.
The car literally looks to be 2-3 years old! Great paint, great interior, the only thing that shows age is the dash and it has just a couple small hairline cracks in it. I'll take care of those.
The rear drivers window doesn't go down, no sound when I try either.
But that and a very small tranny leak are the only issues the car has.

The seller even changed the oil and fuel filter THIS MORNING for me!
He was a great guy, gave me an air filter, oil filter, fuses and a Barry Manilow tape (left in the door, will send it back).
I'll get pictures tomorrow, it's cloudy and raining now.
FINALLY!!!!!
Doin the Happy MB Dance. . .

Congrats..........most of the time we hear of the opposite scenario.

It's a good feeling when the vehicle comes through for you.

That's awesome Ginny, excellent to hear. I would congratulate you, but I think it's your husband who will enjoy this, right?
Then you can get your 115 later, as that seems to be the car for you....

Now Some Questions. . .

I'm slow going up some hills. Today I was pulling a hill that I hit at 50MPH. I dropped all the way back to 30 by the time I got to the top. Am I missing something? Can I force the car to downshift, since it didn't do that on it's own?

Second, there is a lever on the left side of the drivers seat that doesn't seem to do anything. The right side has the wheel to make the backrest go up and down, but I cannot figure out what the right side lever does. Anyone?
And is there anyone who has an extra wheel cover for that? The passengers side has the black wheel cover, but the drivers seat is missing. Anyone have a good one that they'd like to sell me?

Is there a way to make the seat a bit firmer? I sit really deep and need to sit a bit higher but don't want to use a cushion.

I'm sure I'll come up with more, and no I haven't gotten a picture yet.
It's comin!
Ginny

"Can I force the car to downshift, since it didn't do that on it's own?"

There is a button under the accelerator that can cause a downshift if it is working and the pedal as pushed far enough down to close the switch. Otherwise, just move the shifter down to "S", that is what it is for. You can nearly drive it like a stick shift, when necessary.

Lever on the outside of the front seats operates the ramp for raising the seat. Works almost like moving the seat forward and back with the similarr lever in the front. It is a bit strange, but works pretty well once lubed and operated a couple of times.

You can cram some pool noodle material in and around the springs. Try the search to see what others have done.

Please enter your car year and type in the signature area, so we won't forget what car(s) you are driving and asking about.

Maybe you need to clean your banjo bolts. Or else the carpet was blocking the kickdown switch, or perhaps the switch itself needs replacement.

Did the owner change both fuel filters this morning? Maybe one is clogged.
