How do I flatten bowed Mahogony Trim on 85 300D Climate Control Face?

How do I flatten a bowed piece of Mahogony Trim on my 85 300D Climate Control Face? You know the 7 x 7 inch piece on the center console with the switch and climate control cut outs. I've tried soaking it in hot water for several hours and then pressing it under stacks of books, but I can't get it to straighten out so I can mount it securely with glue.

The indians used to wet wood to bend it for canoes. High humidity most likely warped the wood.

Since the metal plate is flat, what I did was to glue it on with some polyurethane glue (Gorilla Glue) and clamp it together until it set. No problems yet.

It's the only glue I've found that has worked.

That sounds like the best idea, but here is another one.

Pull the wood off the metal plate. Soak it really hot water or put it in a steamer. Then put it on a flat surface and put something flat and heavy on top of it. This may cause thing to delaminate though or the finish may come off. I would only do this as a last resort.

I was hoping someone would say that because I recently bought a piece off of ebay and its warping up around the edges where it attaches to the metal. I'd planned on using that glue because my dad swears by it but I'm glad to know it actually works.

I had that problem as well. I removed the wood froom the metal plate, re-applied with gorilla in between, and then stacked a couple of phone books on top of it all in aims of reducing the bow in the wood and to manipulate to gorilla glue into holding the wood down flat. It worked perfectly!
