Vaccume Elbow WOW!!
I did my spring inspection today and looked over evrything and ther's been a vaccume elbow off the main line to the line to the VCV that look a little suspect. it's been like that since I got it, so I figured, what the hell i'll replace it. I didn't really expect to gain anything from it...man, was I WRONG!!
I didn't have any 'formed' elbows so I just used some vaccume hose, and HOLA! tranny shifts firmer, still flares, but that's because I don't have a dashpot, and everything vaccume works faster and the system holds vaccume for more than 15 minutes! never thought that's the problem, i'm always pessimizing that it's something more expensive or major. and POWER. took it down the highway, and 140+KPH and still pulling! was never able to do more than 125 even after an ALDA tweak. and 4th gear doesn't seem to slip anymore... the Moral...don't overlook the small things. but you all know that already

Thats True. Some like to throw all this money at problems that arnt there & for what Might happen or might break. I say maintain these cars (fluids, belts, etc) but dont go buying uneeded stuff that could last 10 years.
I actully fixed a poor shifting tranny on my 82 300D by cleaning one of those vacuum tee ports that comes off the main line with a small nail. I noticed I wasnt geting good vacuum from one port but the other was fine. All it needed was a little cleaning. Why buy a new Main vacuum supply line for all that money? If you dont know any better or have a credit card with no sense of real money then buy everything. Good Job. |

As one who contributed to the thread previously referenced [ http://www.peachparts.com/shopforu...d.php?t=143848 ] I would like to ask “Got The Benz” a question… Which of the two vacuum lines on your “ VCV ” you found this problem:
(a) the one that comes from the vacuum source [ on top of the valve cover ]?, or (b) the one that goes through the firewall into the passenger compartment of the car ? I’m working on multiple vacuum/shifting problems and knowing this might prove helpful ! SideBar to this: I have what appears to be an official M-B vacuum diagram for my vintage 80 300D and it shows the valve mounted on the fuel injection pump as the: (1) “Vacuum Modulating Valve” and the component on the tranny the: (2) “Vacuum control unit”… but the parts houses are all over the park with names for these two components… e.g. (1) called “Vacuum valve” and (2) called “Vacuum modulating valve. Q - Does anyone know for certain what the proper names are… what the proper German-to-American English translations are? Sam |

there have been many people who dont know about how these trannys work on a MB Diesel that have some shop rebuild & butcher them when all they needed was a vacuum line fixed. This System is unique.
