Whats the most economical way to flush your AC system?
 

Its that time and I'm all charged up after reading Diesel Giant's http://dieselgiant.com/repairyourac.htm. My only question is whats the most economical way to flush your system. In Diesel Giant's pictorial he seems to be holding a disposable can with pressurized flush. Can you buy these or do you have to buy the $50 tool and then buy the flush separately and add it a flush can pressurized from your Shop AC? I just want to do it correctly. What's the recommended method, supplies and technology for flushing?

What I did was disconnect the expansion valve and rig two hoses. One to the evaporator in and the other to the out. Both hosed were purchased at Ace Hardware.
Put a funnel on one end and the other end into a bucket or other suitable container.
Pour mineral spirits into the funnel until it comes out into the bucket. Let stand for a minute and blast out with compressed air.
repeat procedure backwards.

Do the same for the condenser. Disconnect at compressor.

Flush hoses too.

Put proper amount of oil into system and seal up with new o-rings and Nylog.
Put on vacuum pump for a minimum of 1 hour. 2 would be better.

Check for leaks and recharge.

Where do you use the mineral spirits? Where do you use the Flush? I thought you just had to use Flush? Thanks again.

The mineral spirits is the flush. You can buy A/C flush in a can but you will do well if you do as Danny suggested. Basically, you fill each unit with liquid solvent, then blow it out. The idea is to get out particles and old oil.

Would lacquer thinner be acceptable, or too strong for the hoses?

Mineral spitirits is paint thinner so be careful.

Lacquer thinner is more or less the same thing.
Some people would also recommend acetone but I think that's overkill. And that stuff is nasty.

DO NOT DO THAT! The flush that is made for A/C systems also will not destroy the o rings etc. Use a flush designed for A/C systmes.

I got the cans of flush at Advance Auto Parts. Dont use laquer thinner, its for laquer.
