Wrenches 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 17, 19, 22, 24, 26 (correct me on these larger ones). 3/8 drive rachet and universal joint with a couple 6 inch extensions. 1/2 drive rachet and couple extensions. You'll need a 5mm hex bit too. I.ve used it on the brake collar, oil pan, trans cooler lines, vcv. 27 mm thin stubby wrench to remove the oil cooler lines and ALDA. 41 nd 46mm to properly work on the propeller shaft. 10mm hex socket 1/2" drive to remove the front disk from the hub.

Thanks, Roy for bringing this back. It ran before I was a forum member so I have not seen it before.
I'll add PB Blaster, Diesel Purge, ramps and or jack stands.

tools- never enough
Quote:
I have been looking at Mercedes, BMW, Borgward and original Maybach tool kits. Remarkably different! Grab a 32mm open end wrench and see if you can find a 46MM bolt, or 1 3/4 " bolt that you can weld on and make a gas tank socket remover.27mm long socket and wrench are handy. If you are going to remove bolts on the rear end a 24" breaker bar is a good thing, I have them up to 1" drive and 80" long. They never fail me, especially if I put a pipe on them.

Don't forget one of those long goose neck claw devices for picking up dropped bolts in hard to reach places. Other uses for it also.......
and a small telescoping mirror and a magnetic telscoping wand for plucking lost or loosened bolts before they drop into the netherworld.

The OP started out about some basic tools for his teenage boys who were getting ready to drive the family w123. by now they should have flown the coop. dot sure the OP is still with us.
we have added so much stuff to take with us, we will need a trailer to carry it all . I know my tool box just about pulls my arm out of it`s socket , but does give the rear tires more traction. A 12 point 12mm socket to remove the flywheel bolts. never know when we`ll need to pull it along the road side. Charlie

The most important thing of all, the tool between your ears. It is light-weight, portable and does not take up any extra space.

I do 95% of my work with a 1/2" metric set from 10-20mm, 1/2" universal stubby, 14/17mm allen, 4-10mm allen set, breaker bar, cordless drill with 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2" adapter, phillips/slotted screw drivers, 8mm 1/4" socket, and 6-19mm wrench set, 24mm wrench, 27mm wrench, 27mm socket, 2lb magnetic pen, flashlight/work lights, needle nose and vise grip pliers. Almost all purchased at HF, the allen sets came from Autozone. The only tool I splurged on is the 1/2" socket driver. Most of this setup fits into the cheapo tool bags they sell at HF which is very useful when going to the junkyard. The cordless drill does wonders for speeding up things like dash removal. A flex driver for it would be tits but I dont have one. A close quarters angled cordless might be cool but it lacks the grunt of the 19volt.
