Would you pay $1000 for a clean body?
I bought a '76 300D. I have put several thousand dollars into it, but I don't care to fix it up anymore and I need to sell it. When I bought it the corrosion on the rear fender looked minor. A buick creased the door and revealed the extent of the corrosion damage.
My question is would it be worth it financially for me to pay $1050 dollars to fix the body properly or to sell as is? Could I recoup that money? I know it will sell better with a clean body, but how much better? Thanks for the help. |

well
it all depends on how good the rest of the car is.
i probably would try to sell it as is and see how it goes. maybe do some rudimentary things to make it look better yourself. then if it doesnt sell, maybe you consider doing the better repair. but again i wopuld only do the expensive repair if the rest of the car is pretty choice. tom w

Before even thinking of the upper body problems really investigate the floor pans , subframe rails and anything structurial related underneath. Unfortunatly 114/115 bodies can have some really serious rust issues sometimes. A lot may depend on where you live and do not be fooled by a layer of undercoating make sure you probe with an awl or screwdriver under there.

Get another with a good body and make that one your parts car.
I think there's one on Craig's list (SF or San Diego, I believe) with a beautiful body, but bad engine. There are also Katrina cars with perfectly fine metal. |
