Diesel $5.50 per gallon, what month this year
What month this year will diesel hit $5.50 per gallon?
What will the excuse/blame be this time? |

Not Likely
I do not think it will hit that price. If Iran decided to close oil production, then the price of oil/barrel will go up. In that scenerio, the price may be in the high $3, low $4 range. Hey, the price of SVO is below $3 a gallon now. Costco is selling soy bean oil in 4.6 gallon containers for $12.69 (no tax in CA). Vegetable oil will always remains stable as we produce them.

My Dumb Question.
I have read that some have put straight veg oil in the tank.
So, I live in So Cal where the temp is moderate. Can I buy the Costco Soy Oil and dump it in my tank, straight ?

Yes but you may want to thin it out by doing a mix of 1/2 a gallon of Regular Gas for every cubie of soy oil you dump in, helps it flow better. Adding a dose of Cetane Booster or power service per tank can give a little more power too. Maybe 1/3 a bottle each tank.....not too bad.

If diesel is $5.50 a gallon I don't want to think about what gasoline would be! RUG is at $2.79+ around here currently! Premium is only 1 cent away from $3! And the summer driving season hasn't even begun yet!

Oil prices in future year? Anyones guess is possibly valid at this stage. One thing americans should realise is your base price on almost all consumption items has been on a faster accelerating curve that in canada for example. At one time it was a pleasure price wise as well to tour in usa as things were habitually much cheaper in comparison. Still applies on some items but the difference is narrowing faster all the time. You could pass us at some point. Really too bad. I remember five gallons of regular gas there for one dollar and probably cheaper in different locations. General inflation was not a factor to any extent then either. Perhaps that was the zenith of the american empire and now it is on the backslope. It causes some concern to see the largest american corporations getting into trouble as well as they are somewhat the bellweather of the future even in the relatively short term. If you do bad we will follow you to some extent of course. GM just announced the closure of their local regional parts supply warehouse for example this week. Probably opened in 1920-30. Since it employed only 14 men and was a support for all the maritime dealers it does start to give some indication of how bad things are really becoming in that sector. Back to topic. Your fuel prices will tend to continue rising as will ours till world average price is hit. There will be small corrections along the way but in hindsite it has been underway for some time already. But that is just my opinion.
