What did it cost new?

What was the new price of my 1985 300D Turbo? (An approximation will be fine; I recognize that there are a lot of variables.) It is a California car. I once found a web site that listed the new prices of old cars but can't find it tonight.

The previous owners spent $31,985 on my 1984 300D Turbo in May 1984 at Mercedes-Benz Manhattan. Seems people paid anywhere from $28K-$35K on their new w123's in 1984 and 1985...

Thanks, Nate!

That's exactly the information I wanted.

If you can find one on autotrader.com and click on the model info tab, it will list the base MSRP for that model.

My '87 SDL was $56,000 new. I think that translates to somewhere around $80,000 today with inflation.

Thanks
David

What can I tell you is that the last production year'85 sold with 25-35% off the sticker price, because the new W124 was allready shipped from Germany, they offered 10k discounts on a 34-35k 300d and even more on the 300sd...same like they are doing right now with the left over W220 06 S500-S350,they have about 10-12k in dealer cash+ mark up on the car, to offer to customers,so,a left over 90k S500 can be bought right now for 72-74k,because the new model 07 is for sale...not the same thing on the E-class,not much discount there.

220K+ on a #14 head (knock on center console) The "off the lot" cost was just over $42k all said and done. Seems the trick is NEVER let it overheat and always use proper antifreeze. Here's an FYI, I've had two Ford Escort heads crack BEFORE going into red temp, know two guys who cooked Dodge/Mitsu heads the same way. Also, a relative bought a "new" Honda motor for a 6 year old car, ALL of these before 220K, seeing a pattern here and I'd be willing to bet NONE of them ever got the same reputation as the 124 head.

Based on that index, my 82 300D would sell for about $62800 today, that's more than a new CDI.

I typically use "NADA" for MSRP prices.
According to them, a 1985 300D had an MSRP of $31,940 - which is very close to Nates figures.

Here are some of the other 1985 Mercedes MSRP's.

190E - $23,430
190D - $23,510
300D - $31,940
300TD-T - $35,310 (wagon)
300SD - $39,500
380SE - $42,730 (what I currently own)
500SEL - $51,200
500SEC - $56,800
380SL - $43,820
300GD - $45,950

If you call 1-800-FOR-MERC and give them your VIN number they often are able to send you your car's original window sticker and dealer invoice. They did this for me at no charge.

No not really, start ticking off a few option box's and you can break $60k pretty fast.

Be careful on what you expect. The one I requested for my TD had all the prices and addresses covered up when they copied it for me.

I have the original sticker (and the metal plate) for my 300D, it was in the glove box when I bought it.
