sticky dash clock

It's a 1995 E300D, not that it should matter for this one. The clock stops at times, often for hours at time, but:

It seems to keep good time with the engine off, but stops intermittently when the engine is running.

I've changed the fuse and checked the contacts which is about the only thing I can think of.

Any suggestions out there?

Hello!

I feel with you. Had the same problem. Resoldering contacts did not work, replacing capacitors and resistors did not work either. The clock would stop at any time for hours. No use at all. I ended up with going to a scrapyard and getting another clock. However it was not exactly the same part and the fit was different. In the end I had to take the clockwork apart and use wheels from my 'new' scrapyard clock in the old clockwork. At a certain stage I had this feeling I'd never put it back together again. But I did and the old clock with new wheels works just great, exact to a second.

The moral of the story - if the clock stops and you have a working +12V (permanent) and a ground, replace it. It is easily replaceable and any scrapyard should have at least a dozen of them.

Perhaps the gears need to be cleaned.

My clock is doing the same thing but seems to stop only when I start the car, and then only rarely. Using the dial to move the hands around for about a minute has worked for me to get it started again.
