Trusty CV joints decided to give way. Had a set rebuilt and installed them. Here are some pictures. Used the drop the diff. method and it worked like a charm. To get the rebuilt axles back into the diff I had to strip the paint off! Talk about close tolerances.

It's not too bad if you know what you are doing. I had to swap mine out a this winter when it was hovering around freezing. Laying on concrete at that temp makes it hard to stay warm. Is that a new differential cover plate?

I don't know why MB engineers didn't leave more clearance so the axles could be R&R easier. Just another 8 mm would make all the difference.

I loosened the damper until the catch kept the suspension member from lowering farther but I still had to do a lot of prying to R&R the axle from and into the bearing housing.
