300d - 124 body (1987) rear suspension

How difficult is it to redo the rear suspension -
replace links, bushings, control arm struts , thrust arm etc.

The rubber is just about gone. I haven't done this before, can do brakes up to replacing calipers, and have done more advanced work on earlier gas model MBs (like 220SE, 250SE, 280 SE from the 60's).

But after reading many posts I'm somewhat intimidated by this 124 300d.

Does the spring have to be compressed? Does everything with rubber bushing need to be replaced.?

All suggestions greatly appreciated.

The rears on my 126s I'm going to farm out I believe, on a lift would be SO much easier. I can't see how I can remove the control arm without pulling out all of my hair to replace those bushings as well as the upper coil spring mount. Granted the 124 has a TOTALLY different rear setup, the major stuff will be diffiult. But those trailing arm lookin' parts shouldn't be too hard.

The front I can do in my driveway easily. I'm just not sure how to do those subframe mounts up front yet.

W124 rear suspensions are very easy to work on. The rear spring doesn't need to be removed to replace the links (with the exception of the spring link, obviously).

The spring link can be removed after supporting it with a jack, removing the bolts, and lowering the jack (with the car on jackstands of course). This rear suspension is an excellent design that's still in use on current MB's. A huge engineering leap forward from the 123/126 design - that's for sure.
