300TD hitch help

Anyone know where I can get a hitch installed at a reasonable price? Jiffy Hitch is the only installer that even sells hitches for the 300 series and they want $500 plus another $50 for the wiring then throw in the tax and I'm looking at $600. I am also not too fond of having an installer do it who has never worked on a MBZ and then the same inexperienced installer cutting into my wiring.

Maybe someone here might like to lend a hand? I live around the Baltimore/Harrisburg corrider and am not all that far from D.C. or Philly either.

I am not towing anything all that heavy, just my little 14' aluminum boat.

Thanks guys.

Cheers,

Bill

my 300td has a pretty hokey bumper hitch on it. I just towed two motorcycles on a three place trailer with it-about 1800 lbs maybe, no problems. it came with the hitch- a rigid hitch brand from minneapolis.

i had to do the wiring, though. i tapped in a $15 tail lite converter to the lite harnesses on either side. the converter stores with the jack, and when i need it one wire goes over to a quick connect behind the spare.

I have no idea what year TD you're working with, but I picked up a hitch for my wagon from www.hitches4less.com a while ago, and was very pleased with the product.

I bought a hitch from e-trailer.com and installed it myself. I think it has a rating of about 2000 lbs. Installation was relatively simple....drill 4 holes and bolt it on. I think it was about $85.00.

I've got a type of bumper hitch for mine too. But after I realized just how the bumper is attached, I'm afraid to use it.

Zeitgeist.....I own an '85 TD. Thanks for the links. When I get the time I'll have to see what they have. I did briefly look at your pictures and your hitch looks great. That would be plenty heavy enough to tow my boat.

Keith.....I will also check out your site to see what they have.

Hopefully I can find something simple to install that will do the job. Thanks a ton guys...

Cheers,

Bill

Z's link doesn't show a hitch for the 123 wagon. Anyone know a source for a hitch like Z's for a 123? I have a bumper hitch I pulled from a 123 at the junkyard but I'd prefer a receiver hitch.

Yes, I noticed Z's wagon is not a 123. I like the way his hitch bolts up.

The link to the site that has hitches for 123's shows only what looks like a bumper type hitch. Is that correct? I can'
t tell from the photo just how it attaches.

I checked the other mentioned site as well. E-trailer.com has a hitch for a 123 but it's like $400 then installation. No picture either. I'd like to see what I'm getting.

Cheers,

Bill

Anybody else have any idea where I can get a frame mount hitch for my '85 300TD?

Both suggested sites have only a bumper mount hitch for the 123's.

Thanks.

Cheers,

Bill

I built my own from a bent up hitch from some other car and it works great. I towed a heavy tent trailer many times with it and had no problems.

Looks great! Wish you were closer so you could build/install mine. I'm somewhat handy but not adventuresome enough to build and install my own.

What is the back part attached to? I can see it's bolted to the bumper but can't tell what you have it bolted on to in the back. Is that a 300TD or a 300D?

Thanks.

Cheers,

Bill

Built mine from a Jeep Wrangler hitch,,, one of the few that was wide enough for the TE. Too bad you are at the other end of the state,, we build custom hitches all the time.

Pete, I might be taking a drive! I've been poking around all winter trying to come up with something and now that the boating season is here I still don't have it done. You near Pittsburgh?

Cheers,

Bill

I used a local U-Haul to install a hitch on my MB.
Pleased with the outcome.
Your results may vary.

Did you buy your own hitch or one from U-Haul?

The only place here in the East that I could find was Jiffy-Hitch. U-Haul didn't have a hitch to fit my car.

Bill

About 30 miles north of Pittsburgh in Butler.
