Is this true??????

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RARE-1960-MERCEDES-190D-PONTON-DIESEL-4DR-4SPD-RUNS-GRT_W0QQitemZ4630110321QQcategoryZ6328QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I'm referring to the roadside assistance part of the description.

"A benefit with Mercedes ownership is the Mercedes-Benz Roadside Assistance at 1-800-222-0100, they will bring you with 5 gallons of fuel, will open your car if you get locked out, will change a flat, will give you a jump and get your car started and will call a tow truck or for any other type of help, this is free to you whether you own a 1924, Mercedes or a 2006, as long as you own the car and it does not matter how many owners the car has had they will still do all these things for you, anywhere in the continental USA"

As far as I know it is true. I have never used it, but I have heard that it is true.

1 gallon, I've used it once. You won't get that kind of service with a 20 year old ford/chevy/honda.
Mmmmmmm, a 1960 190D with a 4 on the tree, one of my dream cars. That auction would be perfect if it were red or blue. It needs a bit of work to be worth $4000, but I'd be willing to pay $2500. (If only I had the money and were on the other side of the Rockies.)

Exclamation Somewhat true but not completely free

I have actually called roadside assistance because I had a blowout and had a tire that was a jagged mess finger slashing metal. Every Mercedes Car as long as its still in service and roadworthy qualifies for roadside assistance. They will come out and help you change a tire and provide fuel enough to get you to a service station for fuel. They even can assist somewhat with getting your car running if it dies on the road if your savvy enough to know whats going on (bringing you fuel filters and helping you change them for the parts cost). All of this is "free" but the network of roadside assistance cars are handled by local dealerships and therefore subject to the business hours of the dealership (towing is 24 hours though because its handled by local towing services). So if your dead on the side of the road they are more than likely going to want to tow you to the dealership and there is a charge for towing. Personally I would not trust my diesel to be touched by a Mercedes dealership as even a factory trained mechanic probably know's little about my 24 year old car. So anything beyond bringing you fuel or helping you change a tire or bringing a spare part or two during business hours the roadside assistance just becomes a message center for arranging pay towing services. Then again its much better than any other car maker out there. I called with my blowout outside of regular business hours and did not see the logic of towing my car because of a tire. I ended up calling a friend who brought some gloves so I could change the tire without getting cut.
