Glad to see someone was paying attention.

My wagon sold very promptly to a very determined woman who was replacing the identical wagon. She had a 1985 300TD same color, and condition, and was thrilled with it until her mechanic dropped it on its side off of the lift!

She was heartbroken and had been following 300TD's on ebay for months.

When I listed mine, she called immeadiately and had her banker complete the transaction within minutes. I sold the wagon for $14,300.(my asking price..., when asked) While Brian is correct, my buy it now was a little steep, the wagon was that nice. The miles were right, and the prior owner works in the svc dept at the MB dealer and the original owner was well known, and the records are incredible.

I also authored the other ad for the 1985 300TD, and it did belong to one of my mechanic buddies and it sold for $7800 (with 300k miles), no reserve.

I've sold a few w123s recently over $10k and I am really surprised how much the W123's have picked up. I haven't posted any of my cars here on shop forum in the last year or two due to all of the negative posts regarding my last S350 when I posted it, so I felt that I was sort of intruding...

Kind regards,

Herbert Phillips

The reason why your last S350 sale that was posted here got thoroughly bashed was because most of us strongly disagreed with many things you stated on your presentation. In fact, many people were wondering why you had to state such things when your cars always sell well and don't need such statements to help them sell. That's all.

Otherwise, Brian Carlton stated what I've been saying for a long time: amongst ebaymotors folks, you're the benchmark.

Now, about that 1999 S600 sedan - provide more details please. I just might buy it (if it is for sale).

Yes I did. For a very long time. I removed it a while back (probably in the beginning of February) when the work on it was started.

All went well. It was a great sale. Not the great experience I was hoping for. For one, my original plan was to participate in the repairs so I could learn from them. I just got too busy to even do my own laundry! I thought I'd just keep it until I became free enough to participate in the repairs, but parking became a problem. I had the car parked in the garage of one of my rental houses but I had also promised to sell that rental house to the tenant by May. So I had to repair and sell the car ASAP. I could always just park it in my driveway but this is a car that has been garaged all its life and I decided I wouldn't be the first person to break that pattern.

If you recall, it needed not just a new engine but also a new A/C system as the evaporator was leaking. I sourced a rebuilt engine from big the local MB mechanic with a 5 year/75,000 mile warranty. He said he rebuilt it with updated rods and was confident it would "last forever" (his own words). Engine came with brand new head, injectors, water pump, alternator, timing chain, and even tiny things such as oil pan, thermostat, radiator hoses, inake were brand new so I was impressed. Then his shop did the evaporator, compressor, dryer, etc as well. They threw in complete fluid and filter changes bumper to bumper for free.

Car was sold to my brother's friend for exactly $20,000.00

Funny thing: right before the new owner picked it up, I took the car to the original owner so he could see his baby was back to life. He was amazed and impressed when I showed him all I did on it. Offered to buy it back on the spot for $10K and then eventually $12K. Of course that didn't fly.

Thanks. Not as nice as it could have been had I just replaced the evaporator with a functioning used one and just put in a used engine and sold it on eBay for $16,000 ha ha. I spent a lot of money on this one, thereby reducing my profit but I'm proud of the work done so it was worth it. Also, the buyer was willing to pay for it as I sold the car and got 50% of the payment before repairs even began.

MB shop in KC

Brave Richard, I live about an hour from KC. Which shop do you use for your MB work?

Thanks

Star Motors. Owned and run by Emery Zanagal. http://www.starmotors.com/

His shop is now large and they work on just about anything that is an imported premium brand. In fact, the other day I was there they had more Jaguars in the lot than Benzes! However, at heart he remains a Mercedes man. He owns no less than 6 Benzes personally, including a 450SEL 6.9. Anyway, make sure you talk to Emery if you need any special services (or maybe I should say ANY services AT ALL) and make sure he gets to know you well, otherwise you will be treated like the other "routine" customers who come in, get their cars worked on, pay and live without ever speaking to Emery. He does not personally work on cars, but trust me, if you make your impression on him, he will get involved in your car. Good luck!
