purchasing a 1976 240D

i have run accross a 1976 240d and wondering about the price range. the car is basically mint condition. the interior is flawless tan leather no cracks on the dash. the exteior is almost perfect forest green with a scrape down the side on the rear quarter- looks like the old lady cut the wheel too soon at the drive-thru. -no evidence of rust- it has 150,000 miles and the air also WORKS. and it runs great.

just wondering about a price range?

I do not think there is really a price range as such. Condition and availability seem more a factor now as they are perhaps getting a little scarce reciently for the examples in fair to better condition. A 115 without any rust is perhaps a find in itself as they really liked to rust bad. Should increase in value if not exposed to situations that are rust inducing and taken care of. The 115 handles well do not forget when in good shape but is also not a turbo car. A couple of thousand sounds like a reasonable ballpark figure with any cheaper price being a bonus. Although a really good example could be easily much higher. Getting more to be a supply and demand thing I suppose. A simular fate awaits the 123 series at some point I suspect. The above is just my own personal opinion of course others will certainly vary. If I had a crystal ball I would post it. I now average two visits per week at my house wondering if I will sell one of mine. Perhaps it's just because I have become better known to possess them or indeed demand is picking up somewhat. Much more traffic than even a year ago. I have six different examples at present. Owning a six pack does not disturb me, the specter of it becoming a twelve pack does to some extent. Generally they seem on a price upswing that is moderate at present and how else can you enter the antique vehicle market at these prices? The generally well designed brakes are also a real bonus plus parts are easily on the reasonable priced side of the equation.

Heck yeah,

As you can see by my signature I have a couple and they are awesome (well one driver) but they do handle really well and are fun to drive. Heck I paid $450 for mine and that did not include gettin the head rebuilt and a replacement transmission (no wonder why it was so hard to pull start) I say tell him $900 and it is gone right now. I think for some reason the interior held up a bit better in these. Mine is all black but it is absolutely perfect as well. But then again yours and mine are low mile examples.

from dallas, tx. the next order of business is to add the wvo system to the car. someone was saying that it was a bit harder in this car due to room. i have not really looked, but was noticing that the battery was in the way. interested in finding a good source for running wvo.

I was probably the one to say that there isn't much room. Once you get it (and you will that is a great deal if it is what you say) take a good look under the hood. You will get to soon enough fixing and making things new again. Probably the first thing you will do is update the primper pump if it hasn't been done and you'll see imediately there isn't much room in there. Then compare it to a 123 or esp 126 body. There is a HUGE Difference. But there is plenty of trunk space and if you are going to convert it will work just fine, you will just need to place your extra filter in there trunk area, unless someone has come up with something better.

Please post some pics of it. Would love to see someone getting a great deal on a great car.

looks like you move the battery in the trunk. not sure about the spacing that the kits need. plus, it would be cool ging people jumps out of the tunk. need to do more research on wvo and the kits.

Is it an auto or a manual? Just remember it had 62hp when new. It barely keeps up with traffic with the manual. If you have an auto transmission with the added weight and power loss from WVO it will be one very easy going ride.

will they ever make an overdrive for these cars? my 1977 300d seems to top at 70 mph -or that was my limit. now, the transmission is going out and it will not start.

No overdrive, Kinda stuck with what you have but you should be much faster than 70 as a 240 will do more than that. Mine doesn't run quite right and on level ground no headwind I can pick up about 83. I know you can change the rear ends around I think (at least on the 123) don't know much about it and you can always drop in a 4 speed (one on CL in Eugene on a parts car original) or an aftermarket 5 speed I think. Again I'm no expert on it.
What are the symptoms of your car....that it won't start.
