Thanks for all the replies. I am going to see what else I can do with this car. Crushing it for me after some reflection is not an option. And $3K is a little too much for me to swallow. Even though this rebuilder has a very good reputation. I wish there were some good pick and pulls around here but most are at least two hours away. I envy those of you that can do a job like R and R a tranny.

You don't need a lift. A garage helps a lot. Harbor Frieght sells a usable transmission jack that has the ability to adjust the trans position, making it fairly easy to bolt up.

How high do you need to get the car off the ground in order to swap the trans without a lift?
