That OM603 in particular looks a little different than the one found in the 300SDL. And since it's a government liquidation auction, what use would the government have for a OM603?

Under "usage" on the auction it says: "End Use: SMALL UNIT SUPPORT VEHICLE (SUSV) (TACTICAL VEHICLES)" Perhaps they were/are used in important military/secret service vehicles? Ones where they needed reliability......

It does indeed look different, it seems to have oil lines or something going across the top....perhaps for aux cooling or a more compact oil cooler? Who knows....we all will if someone buys it! Also I noticed that it seems to have a factory installed cap on the EGR opening and no EGR is present! I bet it was definatley intended for military use, they don't care about emissions.

I wonder what the government intends to do with these 603 engines. If it can be used for the 1987 300D and 300TD, and the SDLs, it may interest some folks. WOW, the feds do pay good money for them - $30K+ each. Do anybody know whether these engines can be easily adapted to be used in the cars listed above? I assume they come with the original #14 heads, and the old vacuum pumps. Shipping this would be expensive.

Maybe these models are special "ruggedized" versions for "Tactical" or military use? I have no idea, just theorizing, especially when they are $30,000 something must be special about them....

The engines probably run their tactical vehicles. No bids yet. Doubt they will end up being a good deal though. Some parts guy with deep pockets may come along and bid them up.

Would make a great biodiesel home generator project if you could not get it in a car.

The last picture explains it all. It's for a Haaglunds stamped on the crate. I thought those were OM617 engines only?

I presume the brass lines are for a fuel heat exchanger?

Actually, it doesn't. In fact, the condition is stated as 'FX' which means as follows:
F = Economically reparable material which requires repair, overhaul, or reconditioning. X = Property has some value in excess of its basic material content, but repair or rehabilitation is impractical and/or uneconomical.

Soooo, it looks like it might be just short of being a boat anchor....

It would be nice to know the original factory specs on the engine.

Hmm wonder what those lines on top are for. Probably was for a G class or maybe a boat?

You can bet I'll be watching this one, it sure looks pretty decent that is an original oil cap. Most of those are long gone...

Hmm for $500 probably a good buy.
