Help! 300D won't start!!!
OK shouldn't 've listened to last indy mechanic. told me "they " always would fill new secondary fuel filters with ATF when changng them to Clean out Injestors.
Well I trusted that, and just put on a new Hengst spin on filled with ATF and it started stalled and won't turn over anymore at all. I took the filter back off, emptied the ATF, and filled it with PS Cetane boost. (I've done this before, and it's what I had on hand.) Well it still did not turn over, after 10 sec.s of cranking. I don't want to drain the battery on it. Anyone know what to do???  |
You should probably try re-bleeding the fuel system with the hand pump. That, and get a battery charger. I've done the cetane as well as diesel purge in the filter, never the ATF although I've heard of this too. GP's OK??
|
I know how to use the hand primer, but what do you mean by re bleeding the fuel system...?
The GP's are fine. This car starts up quick and always even on straight WVO. |
when i put my new spin on filter i filled it with ATF,Veggie, and some D2.. and no problems.
just do what rm said.. and you should be fine when my car gets down to almost empty tank it wont start without priming the system.. so i prime it and put the pedal all the way down to assist in starting.. it works for me |
Yeah OK "what is re bleeding the fuel sysytem????"
|
He just means bleeding the air out by pumping it 50-60 times. Just make sure the connections are snug, prime it a bunch, and let er rip until it turns over.
|
OK will report back..............W A PITA!
|
Ok
Ok That DID NOTHING I PRIMED 60+ TIMES AND CRANKED AWAY. IT STILL WON'T TURN OVER.
WTF DID ATF DO TO MY INJECTORS???? & HOW DO I PROCEED TO GET THIS RUNNING AGAIN???? |
Getting any stink out of the exhaust pipe, unburned fuel or anything? Sort of extreme, but you could pull an injector and see if it's spraying.
|
CALM DOWN.;)
Crack all five injector lines at injectors. Get in. Put right foot on floor. Crank for 15 seconds. Get out. Check for fluid........either transmission fluid.......or diesel fuel dripping from hard lines. If fluid is present, tighten all lines and start it up. If fluid is not present, get back in, put right foot on floor, and crank it again for 15 seconds......... Repeat as required. Report back. |
sounds like he's got an air lock brian...
got to free it somehow - take the fuel filler cap off as well... |

& If fluid is "not present" are you meaning fuel is not being sent to Injectors? |
I concur. Austin85, folk have been adding ATF to their fuel for years to clean the injectors a bit. I don't personally do it, but there's no way it took your car from running perfectly to no start w/ a filter change. Your car is fine, we just need to get the air bubble out so fuel flows properly. To crack the hard fuel lines at the injectors. Prime until fuel comes out of all five lines. Reattach.
|
I've done the ATF thing for years with no problems, either on any of my cars, or customers' cars.
I wonder if the little "O" ring in the spin on filter housing went south- the one that prevents your fuel from pumping straight into the return system. |

I filled the spin on with ATF not added to the tank. Also, RU saying priming the pump is what BC means by "cracking all 5 lines at the injector".."? |
