Paul,
Of all the cars I have sold on ebay the 300TD wagon that you purchased is the one that I kinda wish I had hung on to. There is something about the utility of a 123 wagon that is hard to beat.
Thanks for the compliments ya'll.

Some folks came down from Atl this evening and drove the car around. I had to get the battery out of one of the other ones to start/run it. Everytime I drive the car around I kinda get the heebe geebes about selling it. It is tough to cut em loose and I know that the four door truck will be used up (or no fuel available) in 10 to 15 years or so where the 300D will in all likelyhood still be a fine W123.

uh oh - reality sets in
I had an individual call today inquiring about the car for use as a "daily driver". hmmmmm, I've got a bad feeling in my stomach about it right now.

What will happen is someone willing to (who has some $$) spend some dough to buy an example of one of these cars in real nice shape, but still for a lot less than a "new" car would be, then they'll drive the thing as a daily driver and it will lose its pristine condition. If I had a car like that I'd keep it forever! My car is no where remotely as nice as that one, and I'd never part with it either!

hey these arent made to be garage queens. they are made to be easily serviced and kept on the road. i say drive them down and then fix them back up periodically. no garage queens in my house (not benzes anyway).

But ones that have come this far in time and are in such perfect condition should be preserved for what they are, so there's at least some left in the future for people to enjoy and use as a classic car. In Michigan that car would only have a couple years to go before it can be registered as a classic with the special plates and everything! That car was driven not even 4200 miles a year on average, why suddenly start piling on miles and wear? I'd keep it as a "sunday driver".

I'd still drive it, 87k miles isn't that low. I saw a Buick GNX with 12 yes 12 miles on the odo and still in the dealer wrapping. Now that is a car you don't drive.

I'd try and roll 5k miles a year on such a car, between May-Oct on the nice days.

Cars are ment to be driven, worst thing you can put your money into so you might as well enjoy it a bit.

I had a sinking feeling in my gut when I saw that.

As in Sweat when the AC is off (or doesnt work)?
just ribbing yah!
FWIW I saw an 85 300D with only 145K on it in the bank parking lot yesterday. Just in time to see the owner coming out so I introduced myself and spoke briefly with him, he was interested in my '87 and made equally as nice comments about mine as I made about his gold 123 beauty!
He was the original owner, his son takes it in for maintenance. I started to tell him I thought it was worth at least $6K based on what it was at on eBay last time I looked. Nice to see engatwork got lots more than that!
