It will get thinner as the temps warm up. Still having some cold 45F degree mornings.

Blending with Diesel is FINE

There are many Diesel blenders out there, many in Germany on the diesel stop list running it in power stroke fords and a few on infopop list.

5.2 Blending with fossil fuels
By blending vegetable oil and diesel the disadvantage of the higher viscosity can be improved. Illustration 6 shows the alterations of the kinematic viscosity of the diesel fuel in blendings with rapeseed oil. Cetane number and viscosity in rapeseed oil blendings, source: Maack, Maurer, 2002

At the university of Hohenheim fuels based on rapeseed oil such as RME and rapeseed oil blends were used in a direct-injection production line engine between 1992 and 1995. The fuels used apart from diesel RME were rapeseed oil water emulsions with 2 to 14% water, rapeseed oil blends made of 80% rapeseed oil and 20% gasoline-alcohol blends and of 60% rapeseed oil, 35% RME and 5% alcohol. The operating behaviour of the test engine was unsatisfactory at low engine load, which can frequently be found, for example, in agricultural tractors. At a higher load, however, better results were achieved.
Table 8: Fuel-specific characteristics of blends, source: Maack, Maurer, 2002

RG4A 50% rapeseed oil + 50% kerosene Jet A-1 + 0.1 % DK plus

The characteristic values of the blends differ decisively from the diesel fuel in their viscosity and the Conradson Carbon Residue. A blend of 50% rapeseed oil and 50% kerosene tested in Switzerland showed good combustion properties and few deposits.

I have been mixing bio with WVO and some diesel and do not see any problem.I do see a 2-5 MPG less with bio/wvo mix. But I am still ahead.

Please note the original poster is talking about fresh, new, virgin, unadulterated vegetable oil in a new sealed container.

Big difference between that and waste vegetable oil.

For my own cars I won't be risking their fuel systems with my ability (or inability) to properly prepare WVO. I'll simply buy the new veg oil when it makes economical sense.

So I guess the bottom line is nobody knows where to get bulk oil.

I think if diesel gets to a price point that's extreme, everyone will know where to get cheap soy oil.

The problem with the equation is that the price of virgin VO oil at Costco etc has yet to be hit with the recent crude oil price spikes. Eventually, crude pricing will affect agricultural products that are highly dependent on fuel, as well as just about everything else.....except maybe WVO and only that for awhile until commercial firms figure out how to collect it efficiently and turn it into Biod for $$$.

My two and a half cents.

Exactly - so the time to build up your hurricane supply is NOW.

If there is any excess capacity in this country to produce vegetable oil, at some point the idea will come across to blend it into diesel, if only 5-10%. Just like the agricultural product Ethanol is going to be blended into gasolene in a more widespread manner. Harder to deal with but sure better for the environment than MBTE.

We antique MB owners can not spike the demand for veg-enhanced diesel. It would have to be construction equipment and road truckers on the wagon to do that - and it has to make economical sense. Plus the taxation experts will start to get involved to see the product properly "road-taxed".

Can't see this happening at $3/gallon diesel. Especially since the cost of producing veg oil also rises with the price of fuel.

At $10/gallon diesel, then you'll see someone bringing in Chinese diesels to retrofit into Hondas and Kias, etc. etc.

I've not seen svo in 55's. bulk oil, yes- tanker or rail car=BULK.
no restaurants use 55's, it would require special NSF pumping equipment, etc. svo is cheaper at sams club than diesel is at the pump. blend with kerosene and powerservice diesel kleen & dont worry about parrafin fallout.
always carry a spare filter and enough fuel to fill it.

i'm blending wvo in my 300td,it loves it. so quiet and smooth.smells good, too.

here in MN we are the first state to have B-2 (2% bio) at all diesel pumps. there were some problems with it this past winter, but since feb, smooth sailing.

There is one place on the Internet I found some time ago that would sell you a 330-gallon "bladder". Seemed a bit hard to handle as they would have to ship it to you via truck - and what if the darned thing sprung a leak on my gravel driveway?

Don't worry, if it becomes economically advantageous, someone will distribute it. Right now the method is 4.5-gallon cubes in Costco/BJs. What's the next step in distribution efficiency? Some kind of drum I guess - maybe not as big as 55-gallon drums, too heavy for most people.
