Cheap fix for heating and A/C

Greetings All,

Just thought I would share this with ya’ll.

The bane of our W123’s seems to be the ACC. Duh!!! Of course, mine is not working correctly. Here is what I did to get good heat and A/C. If the temperature control amplifier (behind the glove box) is unplugged, my ACC head will control the heat and fan speed. I placed a switch on my compressor so that I can turn it off when not needed.

Now that I need my A/C, I turn the switch back on, on the compressor and I put a valve in my hot water heater line so that I can stop the flow of hot water through the heater core. Soooooooooooooooo, for $10 bucks for the valve and an old toggle switch, I can control the heat and cold in my car.

It ain’t perfect, but it does the job. Recap: switch on A/C compressor to turn off power to it, disconnect the temperature control amplifier, put a water shutoff valve in the heater hot water input line.

Don't the earlier....

...123's have a separate switch for the a/c compressor?

Let's see, pull and resolder CCU Control Panel: Labor 1.5 hr. Parts $0

I don't see where "rigging" up a switch is cheaper. Even the diaphrams are very inexpensive. www.autoluxmb.com

Have you done any testing with a mightyvac? It's actually a very nice operating system once a few minor, inexpensive repairs are made.

Yeah, how would you like to be the next owner and have to straighten out this mess. There's nothing worse than a car that's been owned my Mr. Wizard.
