Resetting Service Light on a 210

My '98 E300D has a message that displays on the instrument cluster telling me when my next 15,000 mile service is due. Since I don't take it to the dealer to service it, it's now telling me how many miles overdue I am. Does anyone know how to clear this message? I bought an OBDII scanner but it doesn't read the message since it isn't an error code.

Thanks,

Scott

Keep driving it! My friends was a few thousand over and the FSS gets pretty pissed at you.:D

Flash's some sort of warning, the guys that changed the tires thought it was going to blow.:D

I do not have my owners manual handy at the momonet, but the owners manual contains the information to reset the FSS.

I read the owner's manual and did the thing with turning the key and holding the 0 button but it wouldn't work. Anybody else have similar issues?

Do it again, follow the manual exactly, this time make sure all the doors (Including the driver's door) are closed...don't ask me how I know the doors have to be closed;)

It works...when you know all the requirements

Is this feature perhaps missing from the '96 210.020? I've just been driving mine and changing the oil, and so far, no service reminders at all. It's hard to believe that I'd make it 13K with nothing showing up, but maybe that's true.

I had the doors closed when I did it and it still didn't work. I turned the key to the number 2 position and then pressed the 0 button twice within 4 seconds which displayed the code. I then turned the key back off. I then held the 0 button in and turned the key back to the 2 position. According to the owner's manual, the code should have displayed again and then reset itself in about 10 seconds. That would never happen. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Scott,
I have had the same problem.....somtimes the system just seems to have a mind of its own. I think if you do it the first time incorrectly the subsequent
attemps don't work until the system rests or resets.....it can be frustrating!
I sat in the car for thirty minutes the last time and did the sequence button and key deal a hundred times and I swear the thing was just laughing at me!!
The next day after driving it I tried again and it worked the first time...

Fred,

It worked!!! I just went into the garage and tried it again and it worked the first time. I was getting so frustrated last night! The same thing that happened to you must have happened to me.

Thanks,

Scott

I think some of these MB systems of promps and idiot lights were just incorporated to test your character.......Be patient!
Like resetting the computer on the show "LOST" every 100 minutes....its just an exercise.......
