Sprinter Engine
I have read about the diesel engines used in the Dodge Sprinter vans.
The 2.7L has 154HP and 243 ft. lbs. of torque. The 3.0L has 224 HP and 375 ft. lbs. of torque. I find the size horse power and torque to be incredible! Are there any engines any where near these that were used in Mercedes cars?

The only thing I've thought of is How AWESOME it would be to get a crated one and plop it into my 300sd once the engine gets too tired....that'd be awesome!
 I'd go 3.0 liter for sure....224hp??! 375lbs of torque???

that is pretty similar to the output of the 320cdi. i thought that the engine was pretty much the same but i am not sure.

That output figure sounds exactly like the new aluminum V6 diesel that will be debuting in "BLUETEC" form, come a few months from now.
I always thought the only engine available from MB was the 2.7 liter CDI cast-iron block. As has been offered for many years. The output of the 270CDI was detuned in commercial applications. You can buy a block from Metric Motors.

I was thinking Engine Swap
My thoughts when I saw the specs of the Sprinters’ engine were, wouldn’t it be great to have an engine like that in the vehicle that I drive.
n a vehicle that we drive every day. I drive a 1989 Chevrolet Suburban. In fact I have driven a Suburban since 1986. My first one was a 6.2L diesel and I had it at the time my son was in scouts. I used it just about every month to go on scout functions, many times pulling a 7’ by 12’ closed in trailer. I had it until it was hit while sitting in my drive way and totaled. I have recently been looking for a diesel truck. I am going to test drive a Sprinter, even though I don’t like the looks. The looks might just grow on me at 20 to 30 miles per gallon! I'll post a video of the acceleration of the new V6 E320 CDI. It comes with the 7-speed (7G-Tronic) transmission.
