database of car checkers/hunters?

for those of us in the northeast, and probably folks in the northwest, i am constantly on the lookout for rust free(ish) cars. they are hard to come by. it would be great to know of folks in southern states that would be willing to look at cars, even bring them to a mechanic, so that i could get the fleet i'm looking for.

i know i would be willing to pay for such a service, and there would probably be many others as well.

any thoughts on the feasibilty of this? there's a diesel suburban somewhere out there for me...

I will check with some dealers around here. We are fortunate that they do not salt the roads in Wyo.

thanks fellas. as much as i'm looking out for myself, it would be neat if we had some sort of list by state to help with finds on ebay and the like.

i, for one, will NEVER by a car off ebay without seeing it first, and preferably having a mechanic look it (it absolves me from my wife's fury). to see a car i'd buy, if it checked out, and to email someone on the list to see if they could look at it would be the bee's knees.

not that there are many winners up here in new england, but i'd be able to check out vehicles in this area (cambridge ma, soon to be brattleboro, vt) for anyone interested.

I'm always on the look out for rust free examples and have ended up purchasing the last three that I have run accross:). If you hear tell of any in this area please let me know where I can go check it out;).

I've got a blue W123 in the yard that I am in the process of parting out. The body is about as rust free and straight as they get but I are parting it out. I have a friend that needs the transmission out of it. I suspect the oil pump chain broke and should know over the next couple weeks or so.

I have always thought there was enough talent on this forum to actually make a business out of it – especially for e-Bay buyers.
There are plenty of nice rust free examples here – the shortage is of good well maintained specimens. With few exceptions most of what I have purchased for resale lately has needed some serious maintenance attention.
If you would run across anything in my area, just PM me - anything in the immediate area wouldn't warrant any compensation.
