Indeed the autobahn does have slower lanes, and a lot of people use them. But, they also have hyper effecient cars, so they CAN go real fast and get good mileage....our 220cdi got almost 31mpg on the autobahn when we kept it under 120mph!!! almost 38-39 in the city....and about 23mpg's at top speed for an extended distance (155mph) it was pretty awesome. Cars here have pitiful mileage compared to the "norm" over there. Plus, no suv's pickups, and other rediculously huge vehicles.

We should all take a lesson on driving from the Gumball guys. The rally just started on the 30th it looks like one hell of a line up on this one. IMHO 130 isn't fast, we did 145 the other night in minnesota in a boxterS no one was out so it was "safe" but there are alot of cars designed to handle that speed but the problem is all the other people on the road. We need to get the average cruising speed up to about 130 or no limit at all and the slow people can drive in the truck lane.

IMHO 145 isnt fast....

We did the old italian tuneup in the SL. She topped out at an astounding 157 MPH...

Their little cars are fast, and super fuel efficient. Lets take a new little CDi motor, and stick it in a W126. Good acceleration, 40 MPG...

haha 145/157 both quick, we have maxed the boxter out at like 160 but yeah only in the right conditions. I am sure there are some cars here that can go like stink.

The reason you drive fast in the Gumball is so that the cops can't catch you. If you are over 150, unless they have a road block or chopper, they are not pulling you over...

Where is the Gumball this year anyway? Isn't it back state side?

The one in Europe and North Africa was pretty wild, the North African part more so, no laws.

One day I'll Gumball, as soon as a get a really good lawyer.

Therough Europe First,

Then back into america...

(HEHEHE) He doesn't know about the bosses E-Class I take it. We did a top speed pull, and it hit 160, and wasnt stopping...

And, he is selling it to move up to a CLS63 (Kleeman K4 if its out, if not K3) later this year.

It started in London on Sunday, then they have a leg in asia, and then they end up stateside and end in Las Vegas. I want to do the gumball real bad... Cannonball is cool but I dont like U.S. cops when it comes to rallies, they dont have much patience for it.

Oh really? I saw one where they started in Paris, raced through Spain to North Africa, along the NA coast then through Italy(I think) back to Paris.

How is it set up then if its all over the world? Do a leg get points, ship the car, do another leg?

One day when I have the right car for it I will do a Gumball. I'm thinking a CL600 with a few minor mods. I want to be comfortable, I ain't riding in a Ferrari half way around the world.

Man that would be an adventure. Nothing like partying your way around the world in a high dollar car.

Maybe in 4-5 years when I can come up with the money. I have seen the way those guys party, I bet thats at least a $30k trip.

I think that the entry fee is around 20k now. Ill save half and if you can save half, we'll do it in 10 years.....

Plus, you are put on a waiting list, and you are scrreened as a driver to make sure that you have what it takes....

I know this, because one of my clients wanted to do it in his Ford GT, and he is #145 on the waiting list.

Oh yeah. I ment I bet you could spend $30k per head, after all car and entry expenses. These guys don't exactly stay at Holiday Inn's...

On day, going in 50/50 sounds like a good idea.

The new V12 MB's are so fast, minus the speed limiter you could keep up with anything and be comfortable.

Forced, change that to approx a 3:1 rear end. Acceleration with top speed.

How about one of those SuperTurbo Diesels?

I just checked, the Gumball 3000 this year had a 40,000 GBP entry fee for first timers, and a 30K GBP for returns. So that is about $73,000 american for a first timer.... but IMHO that is worth it. That is for 2 people and a car which includes hotels meals concerts movie premiere for MI3 and you get to run on a race track.
