240d And 190 Engine The Same

I have a 1980 240d and someone has a 190 engine and transmission for sale.Will the engine out of the 190 fit a 240d.thanks

I would imagine that the engines from a W201 190 would fit into a W123 chassis (the 240) but it might need some modifications (probably minor though) to make it fit, as the engines in the 190 were different. (602series etc....) vs the OM616 in the 240. Possible but potentially work-requiring.

before buying i would do the tale of the tapes very carefully.

the 2.3 later engine (gas) was used in the late euro 123s so i suspect that the cross member and such will be ok.

Wait a minute

I thought the '84 190 Diesel was a 2.2, the gas a 2.3.
And the 86 a 2.5 diesel, and gas a 2.6 or am I getting it wrong?

190 what? D or E? I know of someone in Poland who has a W123 with an OM601, so it can definitely be done. Heck, the Finns even get 603s and 606s in there.
