New Grand Cherokee Diesel

Not sure if this is the correct thread to post this in but here goes...

Does anyone have any info on the new Cherokee Diesel? I know the Liberty has an Italian made engine but this article says the one in the Cherokee is from MB. I wonder if it's a CDI (although they call it a CRD) like the new E320.

Jeep liberty has been availible with a diesel for the last year at least. Reports are it struggles to get mid 20's for milage. definately less that expected.

They have had Cherokees in Europe for years with diesels. Dont expect to ever see them in the US though.

Thanks bonehead. The Liberty is on my list to test drive, actually. Our Odyssey is coming off lease in a few months so we're looking for a replacement.

I did a little more research and discovered that the Cherokee Bluetec will be released as an '07 in the US and share the same engine as the M and E classes. I may extend my lease a few months to check that out...

Chrysler seems to be the only car maker with any guts (other than VW or Mercedes) to bring a diesel to market.

I hope they bring them here, maybe the others will follow also.

the us is just now or will be soon offering low sulfer fuel. this has held up many of the euro diesels from being offered here, i hear.

There is a calibre(and 2 new jeeps by association) diesel, a 300 diesel and this GC diesel as well.

I seriously want for the 2.0 turbodiesel calibre with the 6-speed manual and all the nice stuff, but they'll likely not sell them here.

As was mentioned prior, Kudos to DCX for making them, even if they don't sell here

I thought the diesel engine in the Cherokee was an Italian jobee Reports I read for mileage were around 18, which is apparently better than the gasser, but a helluva lot less than we expect in this forum.

Best MPG highway has been 32 mpg and we average 21/23 in town without struggling. We generally average about 27 mpg highway due to driving 75 to 80 mph and/or lot of passing. The 3.7L V6 gasser will get 20 mpg if driven 55 to 60 mph and at that speed the CRD would get into the low to mid 30 range.

Did I mention it weights in at almost 5000 lbs and has airodynamic's of a cement block.
