A/C Compressor Selection

I am going to convert my '82 300D back to R-12. Any insight on selecting a compressor brand (new) would be appreciated. I don't mind paying more if I am getting more.

Right on! R-12 forever!
a new Delco is what I would buy for the 617
Speaking of that, I am facing the same decision process soon, I have to order a new evaporator (and you know what that means, right! Removing the dreaded dash
a couple big hoses (Ouch!) ah well, if I get that far a new compressor (Nippondenso for the 124 chassis) is the last thing necessary to blow my car allowance.

go to a GM dealership.. its the same exact one found on GM cars and trucks.. iw as quotes at 200$ for a new one from the parts warehouse in the back lot.

plus.. what is wrong with your current one.. if your going to convert back to R-12 just use freeze 12 its better than R-12 and all you have to change if your compressor works is the dryer, expansion valve if its time, all the seals on the expansion valve and the Freeze 12 goes in

The current compressor is the original one. It's been pumping R-134 for about 8 years. I figure it's done its duty. Plus, from what I read, it's critical that all of the R-134 compatible oil be removed and that it's impossible to get it out of the compressor.

I have already obtained a supply of R-12. Went to the trouble (however slight) of getting the 609 certification. Then bought 8 cans from a guy on Ebay who never heard of a 609 certification!!

There should be some numbers on the exterior of the evap housing that you will need when you order the new evap. I replaced two evaps in '85 model 300D's last year and there were two different size evaporators.
