Diesel injectors, something except BOSCH?

Searching internet, page after page, I cann't find any injector other than rebuilt BOSCH. Is it right that all north american on line parts stores uses one the same data base? Wherever you go, you'll find same part...

I'm looking to replace 5 injectors on my 1987 190D 2.5 602.911:201.126
Guys, do you know any place I can find different brands to choose, or at least old/new at any price just to feel a little freedom of choice? Or should I be covered with my 190D under rebuilt Bosch injectors for 15$ core?

Surprise me please, tell me something I don't know, make me feel stupid not because of the on line part dealers want me to be so, but because I don't know to search Google well...

get the bosio injector nozzles from dieselgiant.com

Its the nozzles that wear not the injector all together. He has a video on his jetta TDI when he compared the stock oem nozzles to the bosio nozzles.

Just installed the Bosio nozzles myself. Was a bit disappointed at first as I still had the nailing and saw little difference. However, when I drove from New Orleans to Atlanta on a mix of vegetable oil (heated of course), then bioD, then dinoD the nailing completely disappeared when running on the dinoD. It runs as smooth now whether the fuel is dinoD, veggie or bioD whereas before I only had the sewing machine sweetness on the veggie.

So my opinion is the Bosio nozzles rock. Made my car sound brand new and my brother is going to get a set now he is so convinced by the miraculous change in the sound of my car.

I didn't mean any offense to Diesel Giant. I'm well aware of his contributions to the scene.

Kerma offers free shipping also. I don't know if Diesel Giant offers a warranty on these new injectors but that's probably the main reason I would want to buy direct from the manufacturer. I don't see any reason to involve a third party.

Also as far as I'm concerned the jury's still out on these nozzles. I would like to hear how they run after 50K miles or so. Remember, even the India nozzles work fine art first!

While we're talking about injector replacement ... don't the new injectors have to be pop pressure balanced prior to reinstalling them? I read the VERY informative DieselGiant writeup about changing the injectors with the Italian brand, but there is no mention of balancing.

My 82 300TD has a lumpy idle. I replaced the timing chain, did a valve adjustment, changed the fuel filters, did the Lubro-Moly diesel purge (twice) and after a tank of fuel the idle is still lumpy and has a noticable knock under acceleration. I think that maybe the injector nozzles may be dripping or have a poor spray pattern (that's the only thing I can still think could be wrong).

Any advise is welcome .....

lumpy idle could also be compression bad in one or more cyl

They don't have to be balanced. Most likely, if your injectors still function, they will be within or close to the factory specification for pop-off. If the springs get tired, they should get tired together, keeping them at least consistent.

Replacing injector nozzles is within my ability. Balancing them is not, and I have tried. Your engine will run smoother if they are balanced however.

Agreed, assuming your injectors aren't completely screwed, then they won't need a balancing after the nozzles are replaced.

You may find, of course, upon opening up the injector bodies, that something is horribly wrong, like the spring inside is broken, in which case, it would need to be replaced, and hence, would need a balancing. So don't completely count out the need to have them professionally tested.

Also, and this may just be hearsay, but I've heard that its best to wait a few thousand miles before balancing injectors with new nozzles, to let them 'wear in' a bit, so, assuming they are pretty close and work pretty well, you can just run them for a few thousand, and then pull them for balancing to 'dial it in'. But like I said, I don't remember who told me that, so it might not be reliable.

peace,
sam

If all of the injectors are the same age, been in the car since new as a set, chances are if you pop test them you won't have to do any shimming anyway when you install new nozzles. And... Higher quality nozzles are less likely to require shimming. We've tried some of the Chinese and Indian nozzles and compared them to German Bosch or Bosio on the same holders with no adjustments in between and the difference is clear. Pop pressure is less consistent with the lower quality ones. Then you test them again in a few thousand miles, guess what, it can be different again! But guess which ones are more different...

If you replace one or two injectors, then you should pull them all out and re-balance them. It's best to replace them as full set, but if you do one or two them you should verify the pop pressures are fairly even. Nozzles should always be replaced as a full set so they can wear together evenly.

As far as the "Kerma or Diesel Giant" discussion, there is no "versus" there. We work together. DG has contributed a lot to this community and it is only fair that he benefits from his efforts. That is why I generally keep a low profile on this forum.
