a/c question
has any one succesfully separated the clutch assy from the delco a/c compressor used on 80s vintage systems without the use of special tools?i notice the clutch has a female threaded section for insertion of the "special tool"does anyone know the thread type and size?reason im asking is i want to replace the front seal and bearing for the clutch.the compressor cools well but has pulley noise

I have my clutch and pulley off right now.
In my opinion, don't use anything but the tool. My local auto parts store loans tools for free. They had a clutch removal tool. You should be able to get your hands on one without buying. Even asking the local AC repair guy to help out. I think SK tools or someone provides the removal/install tool for about $20USD. (instead of the whole kit that does all the different pulleys). It is a little snug up there with the oil cooler in, but I got the magnetic coil and pulley off.
