Smile Another a/c question

the a/c compressor in my 87 tdt is seized verified this weekend.id like to remove it and eventually replace but keep the car in service.is there a shorter serpentine belt available and if so what size will i need?

LOL, sounds like a quick repair job you want to do in the autozone parking lot - trying differerent size belts until you find the right one.

But what are the other accessories driven by the A/C belt and can they be adjusted for belt tension? If its just the power steering pump then you have the option of driving the car to autozone in manual steering mode with the A/C unit pulled.

Or run a string across the pulleys without A/C that you want to use to keep the car drivable. Then measure the string and get a belt the same approximate length.

does the a/c compressor not turn at all? Even with the clutch disengaged?

If it does turn, why not just unplug the wires activating the compressor and leave it on the car?

I believe the belt is of the serpentine variety.....

actually i was thinking of getting the compressor rebuilt thru a local a/c shop.not knowing how long it will take i dont wont to take the car out of service.it could buy me some time to find a good used compressor as well.
