300SDL IP timing
I take care of a nice 87 300SDL with 300Kmiles.
Is there a good method to set IP timing without using the Bosch tool. Motor is sound, good compression 32 bar still, new injectors 140 bar. I repalced the timing chain lest week and now I want to set the IP timing. I guess that start of delivery should be around 24 to 26 degrees BTDC but I am not quite sure. Is there anyon who knows the data and the best method I can do in my own garage. Thanks |

You need the RIV tool to check the timing. It is availible to rent for a small fee off this site.
IP timing is 15+/-1 ATDC.

RIV method (bosch tool) versus dripping method (real timing)
Quote:
Thanks. Is there an equivalent of the 15 degrees ATDC (RIV) to the 'real' start of delivery with the dripping method? Like for instance 15+/- 1 ATDC (RIV) is equivalent to 25 +/-1 BTDC (real injection time) I know that the older Mercedes diesels were set at around 24-25 degrees BTDC But I am not sure about the 300SDL Turbo. Does someone know about this? |

The M pump may have a different characteristic with regard to the start of delivery. Furthermore, the inaccuracies of the drip tend to strongly favor the use of the RIV for the 603. |
