'87 diesel head

spotted on Portland CL...

would it be wise for me to buy this head?? my 603 has 160K and runs great i'm not sure which head it is.Should i buy it and store it (if it is in good cond and checks out)Which is the best head for these? #14is the bad 1 right?

If you consider buying it, I would surely get in touch with the seller to ask the part number cast into the side. Don't tell him you know anything about the different numbers, just ask for the number.

Then you can start to make an informed decision.

If your car is running OK with its current -14 head, there's no reason to go out and get another -14 head in my opinion. Not enough of a gain to be worth anything. Now if you have a -14 head that's already cracked, then you might want to gamble......

Is it the #22 head i would want?What id #s would i look for on the head when i call this guy if its a #22.

Nothing wrong with a No 14 head, they crack when overheated by a vast amount. As with any vehicle at 120°C, bad stuff will happen.

No 22 is good, 17, 18, etc. I bought an entire motor for the No 18 head and the updated vac pump. Heck, I bought a parts car for a No 17 head and some misc parts too.

Not sure I'd go out of my way and spend cash now for a No 14.
