Going to do engine mounts and shocks - advice

Hi all

I bought 2 new engine mounts, the trans mount, two engine shocks, and two shock mount kits for my 82 SD. The air cleaner is vibrating at probably 25 feet per minute. It is crazy. It is so bad it broke the bracket. Thinking the broken bracket was allowing the vibration, I bought a new bracket and new rubber mounts, but the replacements did not help.

The engine mounts have probably never been changed, and do not look to be in great condition, so I am changing them hoping that fixes it. I haven't adjusted the valves since before the winter, so I'll do that too. It runs great, so I don't think it is the valves.

I've read and printed out the procedure from the CD, and searched the forum for anything I can learn before I start this job. It seems straight forward.

Any tips on what not to do while doing this job? What to watch for? Tips and secrets?

Good luck its a crappy job. Might be a good idea to de grease and clean under their so all the crap doesn't land on you as you bang around.

No tricks though, the engine shocks especialy are a very simple and straight forward job.

Thumbs up

Be certain to wear safety glasses, ya dont want crap in your eyes. I've had oil, ATF, rust, and coolant in my eyes... not fun. I always have on glasses when under the hood or around the car.

Thanks for the input. Won't be happening this weekend - looks like it will be raining until next Thursday!

But great idea on the degreasing! I'll be doing that for sure. Haven't cleaned the engine off since last spring.

You may want to consider knocking off the oil cooler hose replacement task, if you value your engine and they have not been changed before. Doing the mounts gets you well into the hose job at the same time.

Thanls rs899.
But I changed them last year while changing out the oil filter housing after one of the cap studs pulled out of the casting.

watch out for the accelerator shaft going to the firewall. you don't want to have it bent, so undo the pin on it. (don't ask me how i know it) also the radiator fan and shroud, you may want to undo the shroud, you dont want to have the aluminum fan blades bent.
