wagon..........third seat??

So far we love our wagon, but I still hear a little grumbling about the lack of a third seat. Now the dumb question, I've never had a chance to examine a 3rd seat wagon, so if I could locate one the correct color would it be feasible/practical to transplant a third seat into my 2 seat wagon? Are the floor pans different? I won't do any major butchery to accomplish this, but I thought if the floor pans were the same I possibly be able to do it.

i beleive they will just bolt in. there is a little storage area there. if you pull the liner out i bet you will find plugged threaded holes. i am not 100% sure but i am 85%.

oh yeah, i have a third seat from my 76 volvo 265 that i would be happy for some one to buy for a nominal price and use.

It's a simple swap out. But, you won't have seatbelts (I believe). You might have to swap the bely assys and interior covers with them.

IF you get a parts car, then the swap is easy. The donor will have all the parts, IF it is a factory original 3rd seat car. After market seats are available.
Which usually means no 2nd seat headrests.

The donor car will have seats, hardware, seat belts, side panels for the seat belts, carpet, under floor tray, and the headrests for the second seat. For the headrests you will have to remove and install the headrest receivers and MBtex grommets to the seats. Since the grommets are a slip click locking setup you may have to buy new units to install. The receivers are pop riveted in. Seat frames are ready to receive the units

All holes and mounts bolts are factory installed in all wagons.

I swapped my 3rd seat form another wagon I had to the current one. But I did not have the headrests ( they were not tranplanted, the seat was factory) . At the time of the swap, 1991, the headrest receiver kit was available from the dealer.

I have a 3rd seat in my wagon, which my nine year old daughter used to love to ride in (when the weather was cool..... ) However, I am no longer comfortable with her back there.
It is because the 3rd seat was added by a previous owner, and I don't have the second seat headrests. A kids head could snap back with alarming velocity and force in a collision, and you would be foolish to allow it (like I was).
Please heed this advise!

I have a 3rd. seat in my wagon and I think it would be a horrible place to ride on an extended trip. Unless you are only 3' tall, you will be riding with your head on your knees....looks like a very uncomfortable ride back there.

I think your grumblings will turn to shouts of protest made by whoever has to ride back there!

No you don't but headrests would eliminate the knocking of heads between the back seat riders and the third seat riders, in the case of an accident or evasive manuevers.

it would seem to me that to knock heads they would have to be traveling in different directions.

but the headrests are a good idea i think.

Tis true, tis true, but I would still opt for headrests. Knocking heads never feels good.

Although if you were spinning around in circles heads will go all kinds of directions.

Yes it will. All the W123's were the same for the 3rd seat.
