Thumbs up

A key is $15 from the dealer.

It takes money to make money.

If you need to just run the car, but not drive it... then just put a jumper between the starter solenoid and the positive battery terminal... this can also be accomplished at the terminal block near the manifolds.

Please note that this will engadge the starter so be prepared to turn off the starter when it starts. This is best done with the use of a switch. Make sure everything is clear of the moving parts before starting. Also, your steering wheel will still be locked, so you cant really drive it.

Edit: Also, please note this will only work for diesels.

Once the tumbler assembly is gone you can start one of these cars with a screw driver.

Maybe a punch and a mini sledge to drive the ignition into the dash, then hot wire.

If the steering lock doesn't disengage you can snap those by pushing on the wheel with your feet.

Not that I have ever done such stuff, but once you know a bit stealing a MB is pretty simple.

My only tip is to mention not telling the Mercedes-Benz dealership parts guy that you need to "start a 300D without no key"

That is the only way around it if you value the car at all, proof of ownership should come with even a parts car, and that is all they need, right? Well-- that and a 20 dollar bill

since this is about keys-- I only have one key to the shlomo and saw those flippy keys on eBay saying they worked with w123s. Do they? Hes an early model 240D

Well I got my key made for $19..Since i didn't have a title the dealer was of no help and were kind of smart asses about it..anyway my buddy knows a locksmith and all i needed was the rear trunk lock and bingo I now have my key.. it did do some good but it still wouldn't start I ended up jumping the starter with key on of course and it started..It smoked pretty good at 1st but who knows when it was last runing .. at lest i know what works and don't and slowly will start parting it out..this is a turbo by the way with 350k on it..the tack doesn't work but im sure its a sencer or fuse somewhere in that beast..if anyone knows a quick way to test it ..let me know I would like to sell the instrument panel too..
thanks

coyote--
there is a "cigarette butt" fix for the tachometer, do a search, youll find it-- you ought not to worryabout it, as it is in the controller, not the gauge(usually)

Red--
I saw them on eBay a while ago, I am almost certain that there will be a few auctions running for them at any given time. It was not the remote keyless type, it had a built-in LED flashlight and a flip key, seems I remember it saying it worked with w123 cars, but I really don't know
