Aero Turbine muffler?

My exhaust system resembles swiss cheese wrapped in aluminum tape and secured w/ a dozen pipe clamps, its time to replace it. I ordered and received the header downtube from Phil, and now I need a muffler.

I'm ditching the resonator (the center muffler) and I don't want another stock muffler, I want something a bit more free flowing and if its a bit louder then thats fine with me.

I'm thinking about this one...

http://aeroexhaust.com/aero_turbine_3030.html

what I like about this one is there is NO packing material, no fiberglass or metal shavings to get clogged w/ the soot produced by a diesel engine.

The description says its for gas engines, but the design is exactly the same as their diesel muffler. (actually the diesel muffler is the same model in 4" size)

The best price I've found is $145, but thats kind of expensive for a cheapskate like me...

Well I see from another thread that you have used this muffler. How is the sound compared to the straight pipe? I have been thinking about adding a muffler to my straight pipe to try to reduce the drone at freeway speeds. I like the sound around town, but it gets old on the highway. I have looked at the 4" Aero Turbine, but before I saw this thread I did not know that a 2.5" version was available. It looks like just the ticket if it quiets it down a bit.

Revived! thx for the CPR Bgkast.

I finally found that muffler in the 2.5 inch version on ebay for a price I could afford ($129) but that was over one year ago, seems a bit more expensive now.

I'm very happy w/ the product. It very sturdy, has a lifetime warrenty, lovely welds, heavy gauge 304 SS, much heavier gauge material than the stock muffler, yet much lighter b/c its half the length and has no packing material. It is very nicely polished, but frankly I don't care for the bling factor, I rather see it anodized dark blue or black. OTOH its tucked up under the car so well that you can't see it unless you lay on the ground.

I blew the dust off it and I finally got around to installing it on my coupe last week. I cut out the resonator and replaced it w/ a str8 pipe and then cut off the old stock muffler and put this in its place.

It does not drone on the hiway, it is its only a bit louder than the stock system, not at all obnoxious. I can now hear the turbo spool @ the front and rear of the car.

It has decreased my engine operating temps by at least 4 degrees C, down from 95 to about 90, but still a little hotter than I'd like.

I'm not a fan of the tip on that one, and it is not clear if the muffler uses some sort of packing, which will become plugged with soot.

When I say 'packing', I am referring to any sort of fiberous, non-flammable material like fiberglass or rockwool whose purpose is to absorb the exhaust pulse. This muffler has none of that, which was the major reasons I bought it.

This muffler has an 'airfoil cone' (their words, not mine), made out of stainless steel. Owing to its design, to my mind it would be impossible to clog this muffler b/c theres nothing to trap the soot, but in another year, I'll revive this thread and post more pics of the inside... and we shall see.

I just returned from a 300 mile trip, Absolutely no complaints ('cept that my cruise control is broke )

I found the muffler for $173, guess I'll pull the trigger.

At the tip, yes. But our engines don't have that pesky regeneration issue of 1000* exhaust at idle.

No flames and grass fires around these cars!
