My 350SDL had same problem. fuel siphons out the fuel return lines when car is parked up hill and less than half tank off fuel. You have an air leak in a line that you can't see. I couln't see any leaks either but after I replaced the return lines on injectors and to main filter housing problem stopped. I replaced all rubber lines after the fuel pump including the fuel heater lines. On a E300D there is a K-40 mod(remove cover on case in front of pass. side fire wall, it's the front mod w/fuses in it. It will cause the car to start hard, not start, or shut off when running. Flappers are on top of air charge tube and bottom of intake man. under air charge entry. They are run by vac. transducers (along with EGR) visible under air cleaner. If this doesn't work try spraying carb cleaner in MB tech rep's mouth and hitting him over head with rock. This is a cronic prob with this model and MB refuses to take responsablity. They like to sell parts and labor more than have happy customers.
