Anyone know if the parts will exchange from a 78 300D? If so I will gladly donate the parts from my parts car.

For the whole rig to come off it does stand to reason that the crank bolt failed somehow. And here I go again I'm sorry didn't mean to offend.
There are three separate components attached to the front of the crankshaft: the balancing disk, the vibration damper and the pulley. Only the balancing disk is retained by the crankshaft bolt. The vibration damper and pulley are bolted to the balancing disk with M8 bolts. Only the balancing disk needs to be balanced to the engine. The damper and pulley may be installed "out of the box."

Certainly, the description of this particular failure is missing a number of details. But there has been no mention of the balancing disk coming off. There is no indication that the crankshaft bolt failed. So the most probable scenario is that the bolts that attach the damper and pulley sheared, leaving the balancing disk in place. In this situation, damage to the crankshaft is improbable.

Pete's words of wisdom from post #4 tell you all you need to know about taking it to Goodyear. I won't take my Ford f-150 to Goodyear.....

I know this doesn't help you, and I'm sorry. I just have had, plus know others who have had bad dealings with Goodyear and Firestone places.......

If the jerk-wad independent is truly a miserable guy, and is the only one around, that must be how he stays in business.
I hope others close to your location can help.

this is good. i was apparently a bit vague about how it all attaches. sorry if i caused or added to any angst.

goodyear tech exonerated

so the deal is that someone before me, and prolly before old navy replaced the front seal. that person did it w/o the correct tool to pull the dampener. the dampener was reatached not as a press fit but thru forcing it in place with the bolt and washer according to the indy. he thinks the missing pully looks okay but won't know for sure until he get the belt back on. the crank had some ridges on it that he has to file down. maybe the car will be back friday. maybe monday. maybe tuesday. thats how it goes.
