Need to replace ignition and key, get from MB or parts car?
Anyone know what the best route on this is? Previous owner lost key and removed pins from ignition, any key starts it up. I have a parts car I can pull all 4 cylinders from, however I can oly imagine this is a PITA and I would still have to get a key cut from MB as the one for the parts car is barely serviceable. Suggestions?

It sounds like maybe you aren't using the door locks. If you're not than any old ignition cylinder will do; I think they're something like $35 on Fastlane. If you want to be able to use the same key for the whole car, though, then MB is the only way to go. I got a new ignition cylinder with a key for $66.50 - not a bad deal at all, I didn't think. Probably better than using all the locks from the parts car and then forking over money to buy a key anyway.

My local MB dealer charged me $45 to get a key made and I had to show them the title and they took a picture of me , photocopied my license.

How hard is it to replace all 4 locks? I really would like a one key solution. This car is grey market and fairly rare on all accounts.
