190d 601 Lift Pump Replacement?

My question is can the lift pump fail and the IP still get fuel and still start and idle but won't rev to high rpm?

I have 1984 190d 2.2 with a 2 tank greasecar kit installed. Everything was going great 85mph on I-25 flat ground when I drove into the colorado mountains on I-70 and I lost all power on the hills down to 15mph on both veg and diesel and it never stalled. After turning around and coming back down I was only able to go 65mph on flat ground and on any incline I would lose 15-25mph instantly. Now that I have the car home and it will start and idle at 500rpm where before this trip it idled at 750rpm everytime. Now it won't rev up at all even with the pedal floored it will only idle. No power at all in gear, but it doesn't stall. It's not filters because I changed all the filters before the trip on both veg and diesel sides.

Also is there anything I need to know when replacing the lift pump?

I think I will add a seconday 12v pump to the veg side. any suggestions on what type of pump.

So I checked and tightened all hose clamps for air leaks and it started right up as normal but would not rev up. I kind of had to nurse it up to high rpm's in park. After a few minutes of pumping the pedal I was able to rev the engine in park to 5000rpm smoothly and it was idling at 600rpm.

As soon as I tried to reverse out of my steep driveway it would barely move.

Going downhill it runs through all the gears (a little hard shifting) and will get up to speed , but as soon as you hit a slight incline it looses all speed down to 5-10mph.
It is a total slugg now and ran like a top 2 days ago!!!
Please any suggestions!

Here is the solution, but you're not gonna like it.

A. Remove all fuel system modifications and restore the fuel system to it's original condition.

2. Replace the fuel filters.

III. Fill up with real diesel fuel.

Car will run fine as frog hair.

I'm already running straight diesel in the stock tank and judging by the exhaust smell my switching solenoids are working just fine. They are brand new valves from Greasecar.
One question though all this started happening about 100 miles after changing fuel filters bought at carquest that seem to fit just fine, is it possible I have an air leak at one of my filters?
But then again it acts the same on the veggy system.
I'm baffled!!

One of three things is wrong:

1. You have a plugged filter. Have you replaced the the canister filter (the big one) lately?

2. You have an air leak. This seems to be the most likely as an ir leak will be hell on your top speed. Check ALL of your hose clamps and replace any and all fuel-line that came with your car as it is very likely shot.

3. Your injection pump is shot. Not likely.

1. I just changed spin on (canister) filter with a filter I bought at Carquest.
I also changed the veggy spin on filter on the GC system.
The inline (small grey) filter was replaced 600 miles ago.

2. I checked and tightened all hose clamps and it started right up and idled at 600rpm. I have a top speed on flat ground of 65mph and I still have no low end power.

3. If my injection pump was bad would it still start and idle smooth????

I feel like it may be my lift pump because it seems like it's not getting enough fuel on either the stock or Greasecar systems.

Thanks!

Well you could install a cheap electric in-line pump and see if the situation improves any.

You didn't answer one of my questions: When you installed the kit did you replace ALL of the original rubber fuel lines? Believe me they might look ok but they probably aren't. I'm not terribly knowledgable about the 602 but is there a clear fuel line so you could do a visual check on an air leak (large amount of tiny bubbles)?
