HELP! 82 240D won't start!
 

I drove my 82 240D yesterday, and, just as I pulled into my driveway, it died. It will turn over, but won't start. I thought that it might be out of fuel, so I put 2 gallons in tonight, bled the system per the manual, and tried again. No luck.

It acts like it wants to start, in fact it caught and coughed a couple of times, but still won't run. I put new fuel filters in less than 1000 miles ago.

I'm pretty new to this diesel thing, but really love my 240D. Can anyone help get her back on the road?

Is the fuel tank close to mt? Are you sure the gauge works? About the only time I have ever seen one not run (other than catastrophic failure) was when the fuel screen in the tank blinded over.

Make sure you have plenty of fuel, maybe 5 gallons, and pump the primer a lot, maybe 50 times. Mine did that once, and it turned out to be a small crack in the plastic fuel pump that was letting air into the system. The problem only showed up when it was very low on fuel, and I couldn't get it restarted after adding only a couple of gallons.
